Moneris Solutions
MS Project Portfolio Server Assessment
Customer
Moneris Solutions is a joint investment
between RBC Royal Bank and BMO Bank of Montreal (including
Harris Bank) that was launched in December 2000. Moneris
maintains the tradition of security, stability and strength of
their parent banks. They also proudly continue the culture of
giving back to the communities where their employees work and
live.
Moneris processes more than 1.8 billion credit and debit card
transactions a year, for over 350,000 merchant locations across
North America. They deliver innovative technology, operational
excellence and unparalleled customer service to merchants of all
sizes.
Challenge
As part of the implementation of a
formalized Project Management Office, Moneris sought to improve
how it profiles and chooses projects across its portfolios. As
part of this maturation, Moneris looked for a project portfolio
management tool, choosing to assess MS Office Project Portfolio
Server 2006 and to work with Agora Consulting Partners to guide
them through the requirements gathering, planning and assessment
experience.
Approach
Utilizing our EPM Implementation
Methodology we worked with Moneris to fully understand their
specific needs, drive input from the business representatives in
key areas, build support for the tool, and determine the
workflow, configuration and process requirements. We then
implemented a development environment which allowed Moneris to
input a representative number of projects from all portfolios
for assessment of the solution.
Solution
At the conclusion of the assessment Moneris
had determined that MS Office Project Portfolio Server 2006 was
their tool of choice for project portfolio management.
Impact
Through interaction with MS Office Project
Portfolio Server 2006, Moneris is revising their processes and
approach to project prioritization. These changes will benefit
Moneris by simplifying portfolio resource allocations and reducing
the number of portfolio teams and the overhead associated with
running separate teams.
Future Plans
The next step is a
2-Phased approach:
-
Phase 1 - to move forward with a
Pilot deployment to prioritize new enterprise projects and
obtain project resource availability across departments.
-
Phase 2 – to formally implement MS
Office Project Portfolio Server 2006 and use it to profile
proposed initiatives, optimize the project portfolio and
maintain status reports for projects in flight.
