Enterprise Application Development Case Studies

When an organization's business requirements can't be met by off the shelf software solutions, they come to Agora to help them deliver applications that provide unique business value.  The case studies below are a small sample of the work that Agora does.  We're proud of our long-standing relationships with these and many other clients.

Loblaws Companies is Canada’s largest food retailer and distributor. Throughout the multiple store banners in the Loblaws family, their approach is to focus on food but serve consumers’ everyday consumable needs, enhance customer loyalty and profitability through controlled-label programs and deliver everything with flawless execution.  Loblaws planned to added online photofinishing to its suite of products and services.

Loblaws viewed their national network of over 450 stores as a significant competitive weapon in this market.  To help them achieve this, Agora developed an entirely new version of – built on the Microsoft .NET Platform.   Agora’s development team performed an in-depth analysis of competitive online photofinishing sites and searched for best of breed components to ensure the new site would provide the best possible customer experience.’s new .NET site was put in production on time and was receiving orders within minutes of launch. The launch included cutover of over 450 stores that provide distributed fulfillment of prints across the country.  In addition, Agora architected and developed a highly customizable administrative function called Online Management Portal that allows Loblaws to dynamically manage all aspects of their online photo business – from configuring new stores, products and pricing, to monitoring the status of the entire printing network and dealing with customer service issues as they arise.
CIPF is a not-for-profit organization incorporated by Letters Patent under the provisions of Part II of the Canada Corporations Act, with a non-share member structure.  CIPF’s mandate was established by Canada’s provincial and territorial securities regulators. CIPF is authorized to provide protection within prescribed limits to eligible clients of member firms suffering losses if client property comprising securities, cash, and other property held by such member firms is unavailable as a result of the insolvency of the member firm.

All Canadian investment firms must file monthly and yearly financial statements with CIPF to prove their financial "health". Agora developed a secure, member-based extranet (SIRFF) that allows member firm users to create and review financial filings online. In addition the application involves sophisticated workflow that controls the submission of the filing from the firm CFO to the reviewing manager at the SRO to the reviewing manager at the CIPF. At any stage in the workflow filings can be sent back to the previous step for corrections or modifications.

The solution has been responsible for a tremendous savings of time for member firms, SROs, and CIPF users.

SOS is a privately held Canadian company which provides a variety of out-bound and in-bound support & consulting services to both large corporations and consumers through a single point of contact using its SOS™ tool.

SOS had built their original system on top of a variety of third party software components. The solution did not allow for the flexibility, scalability or customer tracking capabilities that the company required to fuel their future growth. In addition, they had received several requests to sell or license their software solution in its entirety to customers who preferred to run the service themselves. The original system was not able to be packaged for sale in this manner.

Agora architected, designed and developed a complete customer management and online training application built entirely in Microsoft .NET. The application is built to scale for 1,000 trainers and 50,000 customers in time zones and languages from around the world.  The site is built using a six server load-balanced, clustered Windows Server environment.

Integrus Brand Solutions (now part of Brand Alliance) is one of Canada’s leading providers of promotion and logo products to Fortune 100 Companies.  They had a goal to become the leader in promotional product e-stores, where the company will provide a full merchandising plan for the customer, and then stock and maintain the products, providing next day delivery, anywhere in Canada.

Integrus needed a new web based e-store platform that would allow quick roll-out of fully customized solutions for each customer, while maintaining a common administrative back-end to allow them to meet the expectation of next day delivery on all orders.  Agora did extensive research into the market for customizable ecommerce solutions and then licensed the technology as opposed to building the core infrastructure from scratch. Agora then used this template and then built a fully customized e-store platform in Microsoft .NET that allowed Integrus to quickly roll out customizable, brand specific e-stores to all of their clients.
